Patina vs. cheap shine
Objects that are created from high quality, natural materials with true craftsmanship without compromise on quality, last a lifetime. In fact, regular use bestows a noble patina on them and with age they become even more beautiful. There is no contractual guarantee on them: the craftsman himself, or his organization is the guarantee. They are valuable even if they’re priced low.
Mass-produced products, especially with the coward and unethical practice of planned obsolescence last exactly until the warranty no longer applies. They are cheap even if they’re priced high and with use, they develop a cheap shine.
The organizations that craft products that last a lifetime, themselves develop a noble patina over time. Their processes and rituals, honed over generations, lead not only to the perfection of their products but also to true mastery of their craftsmen. They select and train people based on the wisdom of their tradition. Such men are valued not only within their organization but enjoy respect and recognition in the community they serve.
The organizations that mass-produce substandard, cheap products and cheat their customers, themselves develop a cheap shine over time. The cheap shine of the eternal scammer: glimmer, fast talk, arrogance, sophistry and vulgarity – despite their considerable efforts to fake true patina: wisdom, generosity and taste. Â
