In this article we have sketched an octagonal view on life, heavily inspired by the work of the recently deceased French philosopher Bruno Latour.
When we humans still had wings…
Before the industrial revolution, our imagination made us fly to the limits of the Icarus story. It is remarkable that now that we can really fly, there is no less disappointing sight than that of the passengers of an actual flight making their entrance into the arrivals hall of an airport. If anything of an emotional uplift remains, it is a slight relief to be "back." But back to what?
It's a small world...
Life is lived on an extremely small scale on the earth's crust, and strangely enough it is not because the earth's crust and a few meters above it harbors secret conditions from which we benefit, no it is we living organisms that make life possible by living. We, the living, by living, create a wondrous homeostatic soup that creates its own conditions.
Awakening in the critical layer....
The latest revolution in our thinking is the amazing débarquement in the arrival hall and the realization that we are completely dependent on ourselves, from the tiniest virus to the largest ocean. No external guardian in sight unfortunately.
Chateau Latour, a small promenade on the property...
To be able to concentrate on the unusual coziness of this part of the earths crust instead of being terrified, it is certainly no coincidence that Bruno's background has included an appreciation for winemaking. To live in the critical layer is to enjoy it, to engulf oneself in its intimacy where within its incredible limitations divine wings are to be discovered.
Step by step...
Nothing is disposable in the critical layer of life. We have no dustbins at our disposal. The wheel of fortune turns by minutious step-by-step interactions of its myriad elements and we humans have to follow suit.
A contradictory consciousness...
Awareness or consciousness, although considered to excel in sketching broad pictures to sail safely through life, is in fact a magnifying glass with incredible precision, absolutely nothing broad or grandiose about it.
The collection of ideas and their metabolization...
The gathering of ideas and facts, though abundant, has to be meticulous. Becoming a collector is not to acquire affluence, but to become both inspired and detached so that your wings will be revealed.
Briefly, we would like to note here that the practice of therapy starts with the examination of the private collection of facts and ideas, not to be changed as is the goal in behaviorism, but to be understood as an immersion in the reality from which the wind comes blowing in your wings.
From here...
We will follow several of the ideas in upcoming podcasts. The starting point will be "Your organization as a vineyard'. And so it is upon you to engage in peer-to-peer interactions with us, because only through the work in the vineyard itself, we will produce the wine.
